Gas Log Sets

Vented logs burn with tall yellow flames and run with the chimney damper open, so they look the most like wood but send most of their heat up the flue. Vent-free logs run with the damper closed as their manuals direct, keeping their heat and combustion products in the room within the room-size limits the manual sets.

Measure the firebox front width, rear width, depth and height before ordering; every manual lists the minimum firebox for its set. Then match the fuel and choose the ignition: match-light, a manual safety pilot, or a millivolt valve that a fireplace remote can control.

Check before you order

• Measure the firebox. Compare front width, rear width, depth and height with the set's minimums.
• Remote-ready?. Millivolt valves pair with aftermarket remotes. How they work.
